The Cincinnati Preservation Association is delighted to announce a major grant from the Haile/U.S. Bank Foundation for the restoration of the gardens at Pinecroft, the estate of Powell Crosley, Jr. CPA received the house and 18 acre site as a gift from Mercy Health in 2011.

Since that time we have opened the site as a venue for weddings, social events, and business meetings. The house and gardens were designed in 1928 by Dwight James Baum. The original planting plans and period photographs are available and will enable a highly accurate reconstruction of the Italian Lawn Garden and an adjacent flower garden. “The restored gardens will add a great deal to the visitor experience and will reestablish important design relationships Baum created at the site”, noted Paul Muller, CPA’s executive director. Work is expected to begin in January 2013. Pinecroft, already a popular site for weddings and business meetings, will now offer the CPA the opportunity to present the landscape and house as a unified design concept. The incorporation of cultural historic landscapes into CPA’s work is a direct outgrowth of our 2011 Fall Forum theme and lecture by Charles Birnbaum of the Cultural Landscapes Foundation.

Cincinnati Preservation Association is grateful to all of the members, partners and supporters who have made 2012 a year of new initiatives and new directions for preservation. We are especially grateful to the Haile/U.S. Bank Foundation for the $300,000 grant supporting the garden restoration!
